As mentioned before, the original Valentine's Day was all about courtly love and wasn't really anything to do with gifts. It was more about writing poems and letters to your loved one expressing your affection.

What was the trigger, that people started to give presents? It is said that the first Valentine's Day gifts were given in the 14th century. At this time, it was common for people to give small tokens of appreciation to their friends and loved ones. These could be anything from flowers and chocolates to jewelry and perfume.

As time passed, the tradition of giving gifts on Valentine's Day gradually began to evolve. In the 18th century, it became popular for people to give their loved ones cards expressing their love for them. These cards were often decorated with romantic verses and sketches.

In the 19th century, gift-giving on Valentine's Day reached new heights. It was now common for people to give their loved ones expensive gifts such as jewelry, perfume and clothing. In the 20th century, the trend of giving big and expensive gifts continued. However, in more recent years there has been a shift towards smaller and more personalized gifts. This is likely due to the fact that

In the early days, most gifts were hand-made or bought from local shops. But as time passed and the tradition of Valentine's Day became more popular, it wasn't long before big businesses started getting involved.

Today there are countless online stores selling a huge range of different gifts for Valentines Day – so you're sure to find something that your loved one will appreciate!

However, eventually people started giving each other gifts as well, and here are some of the most popular ones:

Flowers: Flowers have always been a popular choice for Valentines gifts. They are a simple, yet beautiful way to show your love and affection. Roses are often considered to be the symbol of love, so if you want to go with a classic option, roses are a good choice. If you're looking for something a little more unique, try giving them a bouquet of their favourite flowers instead!

Chocolates: Chocolate is another classic Valentines gift. There are many reasons why chocolate makes an excellent gift: it's sweet and delicious, it reminds us of childhood treats (like hot cocoa at Christmas time), or maybe your loved one simply enjoys eating it. Whatever the reason, chocolate is always a popular choice for Valentine's Day.

Jewelry: Jewelry is another classic option for a Valentines gift. It's timeless, elegant, and can be personalized to reflect your love for each other. If you're looking for something extra special, consider getting jewelry made out of birthstones such as your partner's birthstone or even their zodiac sign!

Perfume/cologne: Perfume and cologne make a great gift because they're not only beautiful but also functional. If you're looking for something unique, try getting perfume or cologne with notes that are reminiscent of your partner's favorite scent. This will make them feel extra special and loved!
